Actress Malin Akerman has reportedly been tapped to play musical icon Debbie Harry, the lead singer of new wave band Blondie, in a biopic set to start shooting next month. The film is entitled "CBGB," and it centers around the famous club in New York City that catered to punk rock and new wave for decades, hosting some of the most important bands of the era from Harry's group to The Ramones and The Clash. Alan Rickman has been tapped to play the club's owner, Hilly Kristal. Rickman's "Harry Potter" co-star Rupert Grint is also rumored to be signed on to be in the film.
Akerman is perhaps best known for her work in the 2009 comic book film "The Watchmen," but there's quite a bit about this 34-year-old blonde bombshell you need to know, and here are five of them.
She's Really, Really Funny - Don't let Akerman's gorgeous looks fool you; she's totally unafraid to trade on those looks for big laughs. She's currently starring on Adult Swim's hilarious medical drama spoof "Children's Hospital," where she often steals scenes with her great comedic timing. She also starred in the comedy "Wanderlust" and was in several other comedy films and television shows.
She Must Like Playing Iconic Figures - In addition to being signed on to play the Blondie lead singer, Akerman is also playing the role of Linda Lovelace in "Inferno: A Linda Lovelace Story." Lovelace was one of the first mainstream adult film actresses, breaking through in the 1972 film "Deep Throat." Akerman will play the titular character, and the film is tentatively scheduled for a 2013 release.
How Swede She Is! - If her name seems exotic, it's because she was born in Stockholm, Sweden. At the age of two however, her parents moved the family to Canada, where Malin grew up. In Canada she attended university and was studying to become a child psychologist when she returned to modeling and was eventually spotted and cast in a Canadian Sci-Fi television series.
She's Off the Market - In 2007 Malin married Roberto Zincone, an Italian musician. The two share a musical connection, as Akerman is quite musical herself; she even fronted her own band called The Petalstones. Roberto was actually the drummer for that band, and that's where the two met in 2003.
She's a Buddhist - Malin was brought up in the Eastern religion and has a tattoo of a lotus flower on her back that is inspired by her faith, resting on her upper back.
