It's almost time for the Teen Choice Awards, the annual Fox blitz that celebrates the top of the class when it comes to all things teen-related. But will this year's hosts-- four-time nominee Demi Lovato and "Glee" star Kevin McHale- be upstaged by the show's musical guests, which include Justin Bieber, Flo Rida and Carly Rae Jepsen?
As we ponder how we'll ever be able to get that song "Call Me Maybe" out of our heads, here's a look back at five of the most memorable Teen Choice Awards performances of all time.
No Doubt front woman Gwen Stefani has performed several times on the Teen Choice Awards-- and she'll be back on the stage for this year's show! At the top of her "TCA" performance list is that mind-blowing duet with Eve back in 2001, but trumping that is Gwen's 2005 show-opening rendition of "Hollaback Girl," which came complete with a full high school marching band and some really cool go-go boots.
Who can forget a very pregnant Britney Spears as she introduced the world premiere of her then-husband's rap song "Lose Control" back in 2006? Before his big debut, K-Fed told People, "I've been getting ready myself. It's taken me a year almost. I mean I'm ready to perform, my music is ready to be heard…I think if I would have done it a year ago, it would have been more of a thing where people would have laughed at it. I just wasn't ready. The music wasn't ready." Too bad the audience wasn't either.
What were they thinking? Nelly Furtado's and Timbaland's 2006 performance of the song "Promiscuous" had the Parent's Television Council all fired up. The council blasted the duo and the Teen Choice Awards for the song's suggestive content, ultimately naming the awards show The Worst of the Week.
It was good clean fun until the pole came out. In the first of many questionable moves by a maturing Miley Cyrus , the then-"Hannah Montana" star added a side of pole dancing to her performance of the song "Party in the USA." Regrets? She has none. The pop princess told Parade Magazine, "My job first is to entertain and do what I love, and if you don't like it, then change the channel…I would do that pole dance a thousand times again, because it was right for the song and that performance."
Pop star Selena Gomez decided to keep it classy with her performance of "Love You Like a Love Song" at the 2011 Teen Choice Awards, opting for old school glam and dancers that looked straight out of "Dancing With the Stars." The teen queen capped off her performance by dedicating her Teen Choice Awards to her fans. See? She really does love you like a love song!
The 2012 Teen Choice Awards will air on July 22 at 8/7c on Fox.
