Bill Rancic had his wife Giuliana panting by their second date.
The reality star, author, and restaurateur is such an avid runner that his first impulse was to ask her to go for a run with him. She said no and suggested dinner instead.
"She wanted the dim lighting and the cocktails, not spandex and no makeup," he explains to omg!. "So our first date was dinner."
But they ran on their second date and many times after that.
"When we first started dating — I guess eight years ago now — we would literally plan our life on these runs," the "Apprentice" winner shares. "She'd say, 'Where do you want to be in five years? How many kids do you want? What do you want to name your first kid?' We'd just get lost in the runs and have these amazing conversations. It was just very disarming, when you're out there and you're focused on your breathing and you're not worried about what you're saying, you're just speaking from the heart."
Now that they have that first child — 1-year-old Duke — Bill often brings him along in a jogging stroller as he logs miles on the pavement or the sand, depending on his location.
And both Duke and Giuliana will be cheering Rancic on as he runs for a good cause on Sunday at the 2013 ING New York City Marathon. He'll start the race dead last, and Timex will donate $1 to Giuliana's charity Fab-U-Wish for every runner he passes. Fab-U-Wish grants wishes for women fighting breast and ovarian cancer, presenting them with backstage passes to a Kenny Chesney concert, Christian Louboutin shoes, or other luxurious gifts. In 2011, Giuliana herself survived breast cancer and had a double mastectomy, so it has special significance to Bill.
"Every dollar counts," he tells omg!. "I think if we can get that kind of money, we're going to be able to give a lot of pretty cool wishes to women who are really going through a tough time in their life."
The fact that Rancic is now 42, not 28 or 30 like he was when he ran two previous marathons, motivated him to work extra hard with a trainer in the two months leading up to the big day.
"My hardest week I ran 42 miles in a week, so that's some real mileage," Bill notes. "I do at least one long run a week, usually on Sundays, anywhere from 10 to 18 miles and then you do shorter runs during the week, nine-mile runs, five-mile runs, three-mile runs."

As passionate as the family is about running, they're equally as fanatical about food. They already own RPM Italian restaurant (Giuliana is Italian) in Bill's hometown of Chicago. They'll open RPM Steakhouse in the Windy City in January, and construction is underway at RPM Italian in D.C.
"Vegas will be next," he reveals. "That'll probably be in 2015. We're negotiating a lease to have a location in a major casino."
And they don't plan to stop there.
"I'd like to bring these to as many places as we possibly can," Bill explains. "We're two years in with RPM Italian and it's still doing really well."
In between his training for the marathon and checking in on his restaurants, Rancic chatted with omg! about some of the things he's passionate about in pop culture. Check out his answers!
