Scarlett Johansson has come to John Travolta's defense after a picture of him greeting her on the red carpet at the Oscars became an Internet meme.

"There is nothing at all strange, creepy or inappropriate about John Travolta," Johansson said in a statement to the Associated Press. She also called her A Love Song for Bobby Long co-star a "class act" and noted that she hadn't seen him "in some years and it is always a pleasure to be greeted by him.

Johansson further explained that the photo was "an unfortunate still-frame from a live-action encounter that was totally sweet and totally welcome. That still photo does not reflect what preceded and followed if you see the moment live. Yet another way we are misguided, misinformed and sensationalized by the 24-hour news cycle."

The photo immediately went viral Sunday evening because, well, just look at it. But it wasn't the only thing Travolta did during the Oscars that got people talking online.

Travolta also presented an award with Idina Menzel during the ceremony, in what was meant to be a light-hearted callback to 2014's ceremony when Travolta butchered the pronounciation of Menzel's name as he introduced her performance of "Let It Go."

However, during the pair's banter, Travolta grabbed Menzel's face just long enough to make everyone in the room uncomfortable.

Apparently, all that face-touching was in good fun and totally planned. Travolta's rep claimed "it was rehearsed in total."
