And sexy selfies can make you a star.
Paulina Gretzky went from the relatively unknown daughter of hockey great Wayne Gretzky to Internet sensation and now … she's a cover star.
And all it took were a few pictures.
The gorgeous socialite, 24, made a habit out of posting hot shots of herself on her Instagram and Twitter pages, and the Internet noticed. Galleries and web pages are devoted to her. She scored a bit part in "Grown-Ups 2." And this month, her posing efforts really paid off: Gretzky was tapped as Maxim's December cover girl.
"Some people gave me such a hard time for posting all these swimsuit pics on Twitter," she tells the mag. "I'm sorry; I'm not posting pictures when I'm reading a book."
Paulina is part of a growing trend of "talent" being discovered as a result of their online buzz.
Look no further than a progeny of another famous face: Scott Eastwood, the son of director Clint Eastwood, also received lots of attention after the Internet discovered he was hot. The actor-model made his feature film debut in 2006's "Flags of Our Fathers" before appearing in a few of his dad's films, most recently "Trouble With the Curve" in 2012, but it wasn't until he appeared shirtless in a photo shoot for Town & Country magazine that he set blogs on fire with pages devoted to his hotness — especially after it was discovered that the burgeoning actor also has a penchant for posting scantily clad photos to his Instagram account.

Now, Eastwood, 27, is rumored to be dating "One Tree Hill" actress Jana Kramer and his name was bounced around in consideration for the titular part of Christian Grey in the upcoming "Fifty Shades of Grey" film (though it ultimately went to Jamie Dornan).
An even better "plucked from obscurity" story comes in the form of Katherine Webb. The 24-year-old brunette beauty now stars in her own commercial for hamburger chain Carl's Jr., after becoming a national hot topic when television cameras lingered on her watching boyfriend, Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron, from the stands during the BCS Championship game in January. Announcer Brent Musburger, 73, commented on her attractiveness saying, "What a beautiful woman. Wow," and a star was born.
Not that making a career out of being hot and able to create buzz is anything new. Paris Hilton practically invented it at the beginning of the millennium, striking her signature pose on enough red carpets that she landed a television deal with "The Simple Life," and Kim Kardashian, now a international brand, is the undisputed master.
Maybe "Keeping Up With the Gretzkys" isn't far off? Until then, the world will have to satisfy its hunger for Paulina with hot bikini shots. Luckily, Maxim's got you covered.
