Sometimes the truth is stranger than fiction. Kendra Wilkinson and Hank Baskett are finally speaking out about his "cheating scandal" — a transgender model claimed she had an affair with the former NFL player while Hugh Hefner's ex was eight months pregnant — and the story is pretty strange.

Saying he "messed up," Baskett told People magazine that he was at the grocery store in April 2014 when he saw a couple smoking pot in the parking lot. So of course, he approached them in hopes that the random strangers would sell him some of the drug. They gave him a phone number to call, he did and was given an address, and then he showed up at the home.

If you are buying what he's selling so far, just wait: Baskett's story gets even more bizarre. He claimed that once he arrived at the house, he immediately used the restroom (because that's always the first thing you do at a stranger/drug dealer's house). When he emerged from the can, he saw "something I thought I would never see in my life": two transgender women, one of them naked, making out. One of them walked up to Kendra's hubby and groped him through his gym shorts.

"I didn't engage in anything," he told the magazine. "It was like a bank robbery. You never know when you'll freeze. I don't know if it was a couple of seconds or 15 seconds, because all I was saying was get out, get out, get out." The magazine noted that he was "so humiliated and "distraught" by the incident, he couldn't tell Kendra about it.

The model later sold her story to a tabloid — she claimed that mutual masturbation took place and that Baskett sought her out after seeing her picture online — and the story made headlines five weeks after Kendra gave birth to the couple's daughter, Alijah. The blonde infamously flushed her wedding ring down the toilet (don't worry — she got a new one) and threatened to divorce Hank. The two got a lot of mileage off the story in their reality show, Kendra on Top. In fact, they were accused of spinning it for ratings.

But now that Kendra knows Hank's full story, she tells People that her hubby was just "naïve and gullible" and she doesn't consider what he did cheating. "I don't say the word 'cheat.' I can say he was not loyal to me," she said, adding, "I don't care about the act. I care about how he reacted to it and how I was told by the media what happened. That scarred me."

As for the audio recording that was released in which Baskett was heard offering to pay off the model to keep the story out of the press, Hank said, "It's hard to defend yourself when people are making up lies."

Things between them now are better. They're "finding the trust again" after a public therapy session on WEtv's Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars (cha-ching!), said Kendra. And Hank noted, "I have a huge weight lifted off my shoulders."

With that drama behind them, it's on to the next — with ex-pal Holly Madison. The Girls Next Door co-star wrote a tell-all book, Down the Rabbit Hole: Curious Adventures and Cautionary Tales of a Former Playboy Bunny, about living in the Playboy Mansion and said that her friendship with Kendra was made up for TV. Of course, Hank's missus is now on a media blitz to talk about that.

Whew, being a reality TV star is non-stop drama — and that helps pay the bills.
