New Kids on the Block member and Boston native Joey McIntyre ran the Boston Marathon on Monday and crossed the finish line just minutes before the blasts, which left at least three people dead and more than 100 injured.
The 40-year-old pop star was among an estimated 27,000 runners who participated in the race, marking his first-ever marathon. McIntyre was running to raise money and awareness for the Alzheimer's Association and to honor his mother, who suffers from the disease.
After the explosions, the singer immediately took to Twitter to assure his fans that he was safe and sound, tweeting: "There was an explosion by the finish line about 5 minutes after I finished- I'm ok but I'm sure there are many hurt."
His bandmates followed suit and responded to the tragedy via social media. Donnie Wahlberg tweeted, "Just heard that @joeymcintyre is ok! Thanks to everyone for tweeting! Scared for everyone else in Boston. #PrayerForBoston please." Jordan Knight added, "Hey all , @joeymcintyre tweeted he is ok.. I'm at home and safe, lets hope too many people weren't hurt!"
