Rob Lowe was the '80s.
The handsome actor started the decade somewhat innocently, then indulged himself at the height of his Brat Pack fame, and then saw it all go bust.
As the "St. Elmo's Fire" star turns 50 on March 17, here's a closer look at seven reasons why Lowe is the decade's ultimate icon.
1. He appeared in "ABC Afterschool Specials." It doesn't get much more '80s than this. After his first TV job on a short-lived sitcom called "A New Kind of Family," Lowe starred in two melodramatic specials, most notably 1980's "Schoolboy Father," which was about a high school senior who finds out by reading a newspaper birth announcement that his summer camp girlfriend (Dana Plato of "Diff'rent Strokes" fame). She wants to give the baby up for adoption, but Lowe decides to fight for custody. Seriously.

It might be time for someone to wake Chris Brown up.
The 24-year-old singer was arrested for violating probation, Yahoo confirms. Brown was kicked out of rehab for undisclosed reasons on Friday and taken immediately to jail.
According to the L.A. County Sheriff's Department, Brown was cooperative when taken into custody. He is being held without bail in downtown Los Angeles.
Brown — who is still on probation from attacking then-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009 — has been getting treatment for anger issues since October. On Feb. 28, a California judge ordered Brown to remain in an anger-management rehab program until his next court appearance on April 23, pending the verdict of separate charges filed against the singer in Washington, D.C.
Brown was told if he left rehab, he would be tossed in the slammer.

Jennifer Aniston may be one of Tinsel town's most famous actresses, but ever since her marriage with Brad Pitt fell apart eight years ago, the media has been relentless. Now, Gloria Steinem is coming to her defense.
The 79-year-old, women's activist told People at Thursday night's premiere of the new HBO documentary, "Paycheck to Paycheck: The Life and Times of Katrina Gilbert," that Aniston's life can't compare to her own.
“I can say whatever it is that I feel. But because of her art and because she is known for playing characters, by definition not herself — I think it's more difficult for an actor like Jennifer to be understood as a unique human being."
The two women met when Aniston interviewed Steinem at February's MAKERS Conference, touching on gender diversity in Hollywood, feminism, and Steinem's impact on women's advancement.
While Aniston's life might be misunderstood by many, Steinem thinks that the 45-year-old actress is unfairly judged for not being married with children.
"What about George Clooney? Nobody brings that up, and he's much more ostentatiously unmarried with no kids — but in a fine way."

Rob Lowe could have been the inspiration for Madonna's "Crazy for You," but things took a very different turn.
The 49-year-old "Parks and Recreation" alum has been married to wife Sheryl for 23 years, but in a new memoir coming out on April 8 called "Love Life," he details a missed love connection he had with none other than the Material Girl.
In the book he says their moment took place in the mid-1980s — after he wrapped 1985's "St. Elmo's Fire" and she was making headlines with her provocative "Like a Virgin" tour. While her music wasn't his thing, he was invited to check out one of her concerts at the Universal Amphitheatre in Los Angeles — she had a series of concerts there in April 1985 — and a security guard came over to Lowe's second-row seat after the show and said Madonna wanted to meet him backstage.

Not even Zach Galifianakis can keep his cool around POTUS.
President Barack Obama opened up about his hilarious appearance on the actor's Funny or Die mock interview Web series, "Between Two Ferns," when he called into "On Air With Ryan Seacrest" Friday morning.
"Zach actually was pretty nervous,” Obama revealed. "It was funny to watch because this whole 'Between Two Ferns' schtick — which I wasn’t familiar with before my staff told me that we had been pitched to do this — his whole character is to go after the guest and I think he was looking around and seeing all these Secret Service guys with guns and thinking, 'I wonder what happens here if I cross the line?' But we had a great time."
Obama's appearance on the Web show also scored him some cool points with his 15-year-old daughter, Malia.

Do what your mama told you!
The moms of some of Hollywood’s biggest stars have teamed up for a videourging young Americans to register for healthcare before the March 31 deadline. The Obama Administration launched the YourMomCares campaign on Friday and recruited the moms of Jonah Hill, Alicia Keys, Adam Levine, and Jennifer Lopez.
Oh, and we should warn you: Hill’s mom, Sharon Feldstein, is every bit the scene stealer and laugh-maker her son is. This apple definitely didn’t fall far from the tree.
The video begins with the ladies recounting what their sons and daughters were like as tikes. "Jennifer walked at 8 months and she was climbing out of her crib when she was a year old," recalled J.Lo’s mother, Guadalupe Rodriguez. "At one point I thought, 'Well, maybe she should be a gymnast.’"
Feldstein revealed that her son showed signs of a prankster early on, saying, "Jonah flooded the elementary school."

There's a new Moss in town.
Kate Moss's younger half-sister, Lottie (get used to that name!), is making her modeling debut in the April issue of Teen Vogue.
"It kind of runs in the family," the 16-year-old student explains to the magazine. "Kate was a massive part of why I started."
Lottie first turned heads at Kate's 2011 wedding, when the then 13-year-old stunned in her Stella McCartney bridesmaid dress.
But just because Lottie is related to arguably the most famous model in the world, doesn't mean the 5-foot-5 beauty gets an automatic pass into the fashion world.
Lottie had the looks and an agency — Kate's Storm Model Management — to represent her, but she needed parental permission before she made her foray into modeling.
Up until this year, Lottie denied all photo shoot and interview requests at her mom and dad's orders. They wisely insisted she focus on school. (Lottie lists history, English, and P.E. as her favorite subjects.)

Josh Brolin's appearance looks quite different in the film "Labor Day," where he plays Frank, an escaped convict. The actor sports a goatee in the new flick and revealed to The Guardian that he fought with the producers until they permitted him to grow the facial hair.
"For some reason, my face, when I have a goatee, is pretty f------ scary," he admitted. "Even just in my life, I can see how it affects people."
The "No Country for Old Men" star explained that before he began going through the process of having his tattoos removed when he was 31 years old, people seemed unsettled by his looks.
"I don't have tattoos anymore. I used to have a lot of tattoos. And I remember being in business meetings with these dumb jailhouse tattoos and I would see how people reacted," Josh, now 46, noted. "They were always very freaked out."

Then: If the date, March 25, 1990, on a throwback photo posted to Facebook by Paul Walker's youngest brother Cody is accurate — and the hair and fashions indicate that it is — the late actor was 16, coming off a gig on the long-running TV series "Highway to Heaven" and on the verge of being cast in a guest starring role on the sitcom "Charles in Charge." Cody captioned the pic: "Getting my first driving lesson from my big bros." (The third sibling in the shot is Caleb, the brother Paul served as best man for in a wedding last October.)
