Happy GIF birthday, Brad Pitt! The award-winning actor has quite the career to show for his 50 years on this earth. In celebration of his half century, here are 17 GIFs of Angelina Jolie's fiancé's film work in chronological order.
"Thelma & Louise" (1991): Back when he was just a youthful 20-something, Pitt became the stuff dreams are made of while portraying a hitchhiking thief who teaches Thelma and Louise some tricks of the heist trade … or so we think. It was hard to concentrate past Pitt's shirtless scenes!
"Legends of the Fall" (1994): A tip of the hat to you, sir! The still long-locked Pitt tugged at the heart strings playing heart-sick Tristan (and shed a few tears) in this epic turn-of-the-century tale.
"Se7en" (1995): In David Fincher's crime drama, a deliciously close-cropped Pitt (co-starring with future fiancé Gwyneth Paltrow) made the movie's twisted plot easier to stomach — or at least gave us eye candy to peep between our fingers.
"Seven Years in Tibet" (1997): Maybe he wanted to see if blonds really do have more fun? The actor smoldered with bleached tresses as an Austrian mountain climber in Tibet during China's takeover.
"Meet Joe Black" (1998): Give us Pitt or give us death. Actually, in this epic love story, you can have both! The actor plays a curious death incarnate on Earth to learn about what life is like … and falls in love with a mortal.
"Fight Club" (1999): Pitt was literally in his top fighting form for this cult classic that spurned the "What Would Tyler Durden Do?" meme, named after his devil-may-care soap maker character. The star wasn't shy about showing off his sculpted physique throughout the film… happy birthday to us!
Caught your breath? Us neither, but the show must go on.
"Snatch" (2000): In this violent boxing satire, Pitt lost the high-top cut, but kept the abs and pecks (THANK YOU BRAD!) he'd achieved for his previous film, while he joined Jason Statham and Benicio Del Toro on the hunt for a stolen diamond.
"The Mexican" (2001): After making a few manly movies, the movie star tried his hand at a non-traditional rom com opposite Julia Roberts. He also tried his hand at two choker necklaces and highlights.
"Friends" (2001): His appearance as Rachel Green (then-wife Jennifer Aniston) hater, Will Colbert immediately became one of the most-beloved guest-starring roles from the beloved NBC series' 10-year run. Who hasn't attempted the Pitt hair flip at one point or another?
"Ocean's 11" (2001): Pitt's well-coiffed, dressed, and fed Rusty Ryan stole scenes in one of the greatest Hollywood ensemble films of all time. In this writer's humble opinion, the actor has never looked better than he did strutting through casino floors in this film.
"Troy" (2004): Return of the abs! Brad combined all of his signature on-screen heartthrob qualities: long hair, blonde hair, chiseled jaw, rippling muscles … oh and shirtless scenes aplenty, to bring the Greek hero Achilles to life. Anyone else feeling like his shirtless torso might be their Achilles heel?
"Mr. & Mrs. Smith" (2005): Before there were six kids and "Brangelina," there was this flirty spy flick in which a shaved-headed Pitt went head to head … and cheek to cheek … gun to gun … and, well, you get it … with co-star, and now-fiancé Angelina Jolie. He charmed us on screen and her off.
"Burn After Reading" (2008): The thespian got to show off his silly side, playing a dim-witted gym employee who finds himself in the possession of a CIA agent's memoirs.
"Inglorious Basterds" (2009): Pitt mustache you a question: how do feel about his Lt. Aldo Raine character's facial hair? The actor's rough-talking soldier gave us innumerable quips in Quentin Tarantino's Oscar-winning film.
"Money Ball" (2011): The actor scored a best actor Oscar nomination for his portrayal of scrappy Oakland A's baseball manager, Billy Beane. And judging from this GIF, the character wasn't a fan of cheap talk.
"Killing Them Softly" (2012): The only thing killing us is the gold chain, goatee. and slicked-back hair combo Pitt sported to play a hitman in this neo-noir crime film. No more facial hair and bring back the highlights!
"World War Z" (2013): We'll ignore the middle-parted bob and call Pitt's return to blond tresses and more-evened out scruff a win. The actor scored his biggest hit to date with this summer's epic tale, and we can't think of a better way to mark his half century of life than by fleeing a zombie apocalypse.
Happy 50th birthday, Brad! You've earned it.
