Six Up-and-Coming Comedians Keep It Light for GQ

B.J. Novak

Age: 29

Credits: NBC's "The Office," Judd Apatow's "Knocked Up," Quentin Tarantino's upcoming "Inglourious Basterds"

On "Basterds" co-star Brad Pitt's sense of humor: "He loved 'Pineapple Express,' but he's a father of six. He could sing the theme song to 'Wonder Pets,' but he didn't know who a lot of current movie stars were. He'd say, 'I love that guy Seth ... Rogen.' There was always a pause. I could see he was trying to make sure he got the name right. It was like, 'That kid Jonas Hill.'

Unlikely comedy mentor: Bob Saget.

On bleaching his hair for "The Office": "I loved it. When I saw Kato Kaelin's hair in eighth grade, I wanted hair like that. I pretended I wanted it ironically. But I thought it was hypnotizing."

Favorite snack food: "Baked Doritos. If you had hypothesized, five years ago, that you could have Doritos -- but have them baked, not fried -- it would have been absurd."

What's next on "The Office": "Shaking up the show without damaging it. We're shaking the baby gently."

Theproper way to pay your respects: "Come up to me and say,'What's up, McLovin? Good to meet you. What's your real name?' Iappreciate that."

Comic role models: "I'm still young. I grew up on Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, Jack Black."

Whyhe'll never work with Robert De Niro: "I walked in on De Niro[using the restroom]. I was at [director] Matthew Vaughn's countryhouse in Europe. I had to go to the bathroom so bad. I open the doorand De Niro's like, 'I'm in here!'"

Harold Ramis, Starting at "Year One"

Aziz Ansari

Age: 26

Credits: "Observe and Report"; NBC's "Parks and Recreation"; this month's Judd Apatow flick, "Funny People"

Comedic strength: "Playing a dick, I guess."

Amy Poehler's producing style: "She's like Diddy on 'Making the Band.'"

Fun fact: "I turned down an audition for 'Transformers' because the producers wanted a Kwik-E-Mart accent."
